Aspen Peak
Cellars
winery opens
in Bailey Mike Potter, Staff Writer
Aspen Peak Cellars opened its new wine tasting center in downtown Bailey on Jan. 21, and it plans a grand opening celebration for Feb. 4. The owners, Marcel and Julie Flukiger, moved their winemaking operation to their new Bailey location, at 60750 U.S. 285 in downtown Bailey. The operation was previously located at the Clifton House Inn bed and breakfast in Conifer. The Clifton House Inn will remain in operation, they said. Aspen Peak Cellars, which sells wine and offers wine tasting, will be open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours of the winery are free, and wine tasting costs $5 for six tastes or $10 for six tastes and a souvenir wine glass. "The whole production will be down there, and we have a really nice tasting room as well," said Julie Flukiger. The 2,100-square-foot facility will give them room to make wine and age it in barrels, and it will also offer space for wine tasting. In addition, they'll have room to grow. On Jan. 24, the tasting room was all set up, but the Flukigers were still moving their winemaking equipment from Conifer. The warehouse is divided into four areas, one for the wine tasting, one for production, one for bottling, and one for aging the wines. Marcel Flukiger said the areas could be rented out for receptions, but they haven't decided on rates for that yet. In the meantime, they are working on getting set up to begin making their wines. The Flukigers average about 1,200 to 1,500 cases of wine each year, Marcel Flukiger said. He said the new location would let them increase production if demand increases. It takes anywhere from three months to six months to complete a batch of wine, depending on the type, said Julie Flukiger. Aspen Peak Cellars produces a wide variety of wines, including sparkling to dry whites, and a variety of reds. "I really am fond of our reds," Julie Flukiger said. The Flukigers are hosting an open house for their grand opening on Feb. 4, where they will be giving away samples of hot spiced wine. To get to Aspen Peak Cellars, turn onto Park County Road 68 at the bottom of Crow Hill and into Rustic Square. Then drive back around Sudz Laundramat to get to the Aspen Peak Cellars parking lot. |
